My personal view of integral life

About

You´re reading a fresh blog from me, obviously :)

Here  you´ll find less or more interesting stuff about life in its various miraculous forms. I´m not gonna talk about myself here that much, I´m not that interesting. But I would like to share with you the beauty of life as an integral form. We´re not our thoughts, jobs, hobbies, books we read, the car we drive and so on… the true self is to be found as the witnessing stillness behind all the noise and external stuff.

If you have any comments, just spread it out! I will listen :)

I can see you´re having a question in your mind… “what is integral?”

Here are two short introductions to the subject:

I am a first year student in John F. Kennedy University, studying Integral Theory Master of Arts in the section of Holistic Studies. So far the journey and online learning with two intensives at Pleasant Hill, CA and Boulder, CO, have been amazing! Being and acting Integral is a lifelong journey and I wish that I can give most of the readers new perspectives into life.

  1. I am a personal trainer, and ICF coach. My intention is to complete my undergraduate degree and move onto my M.Integral Psychology. BUT, for now, here is the plan, and my question to you…

I plan to develop a coach approach “mentor” program for the average client to support lifestyle change. I’m going to start writing it mid/late December and plan to have a tiered system.

    IE:
    Beginner
    Intermediate
    Advanced

I have been looking into some online systems to support an IT integration. I am curious if you have any advice or thoughts on “how” I should approach this.

Or more specifically, area’s I MUST address in order to make it successful from an integral perspective?

As well, whats your take on Dr. John Berardi from an Integral Perspective? I am thinking of taking his nutrition certification and integrating it, into a more effective coaching program, and then delivery it all through IT tools to my clients?

And, just out of curiosity, are you a student at JFK U? What do you do?

    Thanks
    Leanna

    • Hi Leanna, thank you for your comment and interest!

I don’t know Dr. John Berardi, but I will definately find out about him.

Applying integral theory and integral awareness to personal training is somewhat a new concept. I haven’t been practicing any systematic approach to it, but I am practicing it myself. And I am giving advice to my patients/clients as a physician. You might want to take a look at the Integral Life Practice book and especially the “three bodies” and three body workout.

Your tiering to beginner, intermediate and advanced sounds appliable. Take a look at my two writings on applying AQAL to physical exercise. There are no concrete clues how to put it in action, but rather an awareness of how it could be done.

Yes, I am s student at JFK Integral Theory M.A. program, which is an online program and takes (at least) 3 years. I’m excited!

      best, Olli

  2. Olli!

    • Hello Karen!

What a wonderful coincidence that you popped into my page :) I have plenty of new stuff to share here, I will be updating this site today since I have A LOT of time to spend in Bangkok Airport…

See you in the forums and if you haven comments regarding my posts, don’t hesitate to do so!

      best, Olli

  3. Hello Ollis. I just ran across your website. I am a CrossFit affiliate owner in Boulder Colorado, as well as an Advanced Rolfer. I was in Finland last year to teach at the Hevosopisto in ypaja. I was unable to make it to CrossFit Helsinki to workout since I was only in Helsinki for a short while. If you are ever in this part of the US please stop by.

    • Hello Jim! What a coincidence! I am actually coming to Boulder in March 29th! :) We are having our Integral Theory intensives there, staying till the end of the week. It would be cool to visit your gym :)
Can you send me the contact information to my mail? Or just reply here, thanks!

    • We are staying in hotel Boulderado, you probably know that one ;)

  4. Hello Ollis;

I sent you an email this morning. We would love to have you come in for a class. I’m in the process of moving my Rolfing practice into the school, so things are a bit messy, but the gym is functioning.
    Have a safe trip.

    • …and because I have a BA in Arts I could apply? This is the first MA course that seems remotely interesting. I need to investigate. :D

      • The past year was probably the most interesting and developing of my whole life, in every sense :) I decided to leave the studies for now, but I earned the Certificate in Integral Theory (one year intensive studies), so I could use a title “Integral Coach” in my work too. But I am more into Integral Medicine, which is really to say that I am taking into account every possible aspect of human nature, including the self, culture and nature in body, mind and spirit (well shadow too). You might want to check out “A Brief History of Everything” by Ken Wilber and after that listen to the Kosmic Consciousness CD package ;)

  5. I actually requested information about the programme but was told that they no longer accept new students. I want to study more anyway and was wondering if you could maybe put together a list of books that you recommend? I’ve ordered some Ken Wilber but what else is there? :) Thanks again Olli, I appreciate your time and effort. :)

    • Funny thing is, that while mother language being Finnish, we still discuss in English :D Oh well, there are also non-Finnish speaking people here reading this blog so we shall continue like this :)

JFK University decided not to continue with the M.A. Integral Theory program, which was a shame. New University has not been announced/found yet. I still have the option to continue with the program if I want, but the question is whether it will change and will my one-year studies be accepted, probably yes. Anyhow, I earned the certificate, which is cool :)

Here is a list of books that I would certainly recommend to read from Wilber (we also read like three dozens of books from other authors, mainly developmental psychology, spirituality and philosophy):

Sex, Ecology & Spirituality: The Spirit of Evolution (2001) his main book, huge!
Integral Life Practice: A 21st Century Blueprint for Physical Health, Emotional Balance, Mental Clarity and Spiritual Awakening (2008)
The Integral Vision: A Very short introduction to the Revolutionary Integral approach to Life, God, the Universe and Everything (2007)
Integral Spirituality: A Startling new role for Religion in the Modern and Postmodern World (2007)
Integral Psychology: Consciousness, Spirit, Psychology, Therapy (2000)
One Taste: Daily Reflections of Integral Spirituality (2000) if find this his best book in a poetic sense :)
The Marriage Of Sense And Soul: Integrating Science and Religion (1999)

After reading these, I can give you more ;) It might take you awhile :D I have all of these in my book shelf, borrowing is not a bad option too.

  6. Fab! I have about million books waiting to be read but after that I’ll tackle this list. It would be cool to be officially recognized as a Master of the Universe :D but I can just as well study by myself.

I also have loads of books that I am very happy to lend out but they are all pretty basic stuff. :D

Right now I am very into ayurveda. I started reading A Woman’s Best Medicine and it’s lovely. I have a feeling that ayurveda will be playing a bigger role in my life in the future. I love it, there is always something new to learn and live! Happy weekend Dr Love! :)

  7. Hei Olli!
